Default timing help atc 110

can someone help me i just got a 1979 honda atc 110. anyway it isn't running and who knows what the kid did to it before i got it. i'm not familiar with single piston engines. i'm real good with car engines but thats about as far as my knowledge goes. i need to know how to check the timing marks, what to set the points at, and where to set the points plate at. the more info the better!
thank you,
Rick

I am suprized no one has helped you on this yet, so I will give er' a shot....never been into a 110 but there should be a plug in the case cover that has a pointer in it. Use the "T" mark ( some of the engines have a "T" and a "F"(for fire)) ...On the cam the timing mark goes at 12 o' clock Unlike a v-8 where they point together.

You have to remove the plug in the stator cover and there will be a T and an F. The F is for when the engine is running and you are using a timing light so you need to use the T for just checking the marks. You have to remove the points plate and cam cover to see the marks on the cam. It will be at twelve o'clock but because of the angle of the cylinder you have to look at it another way. If you say the crank is at 6 o'clock from the cam then yes the marks will be at 12 o'clock. Hope this helps.
