sprocket Ratios on a 250R
#1
I have a 85 ATC250R and I was thinking of changing the sprocket ratios because it pulls so good it feels like it is geared to low at stock, which is 13 front, 39 rear,. What are other sprocket ratios are people running and how well does it work ?

I agree with you. The stock gearing is too low. I use a variety of setups, but if you like woods riding and don't want to get too crazy, go to a 14/36. This is a good all around matchup.
If you have a modified motor and want to get sick top end, then run the 15/33. You can get a 16 from sidewinder, but you have to grind the case a bit to get the chain to fit. I use this setup in the winter, for cruising around the open lake. It gets scary fast our there.

do you guys think my 84' 250r would pull those gearings? it will have a dg pipe and silencer soon and it runs great right now, all though it is pretty pokey...is the gearing worth the trouble for the torque i'd lose? how different is the 85-86 250r's compared to the 83-84 like mine? I knew the 85-86's were better, but i got mine for a song...$250 running and rideable. not bad. I love the 250r's, how bad do I need to go find and 86 for say? am I missing alot or just little improvements?
