i was thinking about something the other day and it is bothering me. what would be the best setup for draging, a quad frame with a wheelie bar, or a 3 wheeler frame with a wheelie bar. i thought the trike frame would be better because theres less wieght. i dont plan on doing this n e thime soon, i was just curious

I agree they are lighter,but I also agree that a quad frame is better,more stable with 4 wheel's.My.02 cent's.

3-wheels.. the weight DOES matter.. my neighbors 250 drag ATC whoops my bike SOOO hard.. same motor.. he pulls me 4-5 bikes out of the hole, and prolly 10 bikes goin up... with his 310 jug, he FLYS.. atleast 3-4 more bike lenghts on topend

Kinda fun to see people answer three wheeler questions who have never ridden one.
It is really a drag race question.
Last time I checked there weren't alot of corners in drag racing.
So the handling differances don't come into play but he weight advantage of a three wheeler does.

even though theres no cornering in drags 3 wheelers still turn and corner better IMO as long as you use body language,in the tight twisty trails i can turn my trike around quicker then a quad ever though of turning around...

the quad seems to put the rider at a better position for drag racing IMO. on a quad you sit more on top of the bike than on a trike where the frame seems to place the rider weight more towards the rear making the already light front end even seem lighter. with that said, the quad seems to have a better weight transfer for drag racing as well as MX. of course this could be overcome with swing arm and moving the motor forward, but you can stretch the front of a quad which IMO is the optimum thing to do in a drag bike. another plus for the quad.

also, there are plenty of light weight drag frames for a banshee or 250r that make a trike look like a pig. not to mention a quad with all the light drag goodies.

IMO, id rather be on a quad than a trike when making serious power. stability and handling is important when you're accelarating so quickly/violently and if you race where i race (glamis) the ground is not no where near perfectly flat (whoops).

i love trikes through and through, but IMO, the trike's thrills are from how the handle. they dont handle or do anything best, they just are the best to my standards, but not to physics standards.

just my opinion from a proud trike owner.

Also, please keep in mind im talking about trikes from the 80's with 80;s engineering. IMO, if they were still made today, you bet your azz we'd be out front in drag racing.

Has you said it all.Yeah drag races are in a straight line ,and yes I've seen ACCIDENT"S where a rider of a 3 wheeler lost control and it did a forward barrel roll over him.The accident was caused by the wheekie bar digging in and caused a fishtail.
