Default dropping a Valve?

Its always been a common problem with a 350x. Ive fixed up 2 and I bought bouth with dropped valves. One hit the piston and other didnt. On both the timing chain broke and that caused it. Dont worry about it just ride.

Default dropping a Valve?

is it because the timing chain is loose? or just needs to be replaced cause of age?, i dont want hurt my 350x its all origial motor, doesnt smoke, lots of compression and strong. and i run it hard sometimes when i get crazy. what can i do so that wont happen? kinda of scared of riding the bike hard now since its on original piston valves chain etc. etc.... and that its common on the 350x!! i dont want to hurt it

OK....first of all...."droping a valve" ONLY happens durring major upper-end failure. The only way it can happen is if the valve keepers pop out and the valve drops down into the cylinder. What Wes350x was takling about is "contact". That is when the "mechanical timing" is thrown out of wack and the valves contact the piston, at that point you bend the valves and possibly crack the piston. The #1 cause of contact is the timing chain breaks or comes off one of the gears. To prevent this, follow the Manual and set the timing chain tention, If the tention can no longer be put on the chain, it is time to change the chain and guides (not very common if you follow the maintence on the bike as you should). As far as you riding the trike "hard".......Go for it!!!!!! Tune it up like you should, and pour it on!!!! they are ment to have fun on, so have fun! If it breaks, fix it! A car will last forever if you leave it in the garage, but not much good for anything at that point!
