Default atc 250 swing arm making it longer

Hello everyone. I have an extra 85 stock swingarm and I want to lenthen it this summer.

I do a bit of trail riding so I dont want to go too long. I am thinking probably about 3 inches.
Will that be enouph or is that a waste of time.

I have a welder in the garage that I still have some practicing to do with. Its a stick and I cant decide wether to do
it my self or pass it to someone to do.

Has anyone here welded on stock arm, Any suggestions.
Anyone have any pics of modded stock arms ??

I need some suggestions befor I get going.

Anyone have any info.

Gauge
Dimensions
Material
Suggestions
Anything ?? lol

I will post pix when it is done.

Trike has put me one my back more than once I am stuck on hard mud quite often and it hooks up pretty good.

Thanx

Look at some websites of companies who make them. You might get a good enough idea on where to start. They look fairly easy to build if you have the right material and equipment. Looks like you could use your existing brg carrier and swing arm bolt pivot pts. Cut out every thing else and weld new material in it's place. Make sure to measure the distance from your swingarm pivot pt to the shock linkage mount. Before you go and cut anything up. That stays the same. I talk to the guy working on mine, if he has started yet.

Well tonight I took the arm off the chassis removed the axle took out the carrier and did my cutting.
Tommorow I am going to get the steel and possibly peice together.
But probably no welding yet as I am going to practice practice practice, but so far so good.

The guy at my work hasn't started on mine yet. Remember to build some kind of jig to minimalize any distortion during the welding process.

For sure with the jig. I want it to be perfectly alighned as I am sure even an 1/8th of an inch would make for a huge stink at the wheels.

I think I am going to keep it stock looking when its all said and done. When i prep the steel I will be a little more careful the decals and everything are still mint.
