Splitting engine case???

Is there a certain side the engine should lay on when splitting a 85 250R case? I split a 84 250R before vertically and parts flew everywhere. Please help.

Splitting engine case???

If you mean gears and shafts falling out of place then you could get it started up right and then put it on its left side and take it apart.
