'86 200X---Engine broke today---need a little help
#1
Fella's,
Today while riding my 200x midway through 2nd gear the engine came unglued. No parts were outside of the engine but I pulled the plug and the ground and center electrodes had been smacked pretty good. It will not even think of rotating via the kick lever. And Yes the oil was up where it should have been. Here is my deal; I come from a srteet car drag racing world and I would consider myself fairly knowledgeable in that world but I have no experience with motorcycles or ATV engines. I want to remove the engine and check out the damage but I need a little help. Are there service manuals out there worth a darn? What is the best avenue for an amatuer in this situation? I can't hardly think there can be that much. One rod, crank, piston, jug, etc...... Is the '86 model an overhead cam engine? How is the cam run...timing chain? Is there a head then that can be opened up and ported a little since it will be apart? I guess there is just a steel sleeve in the jug? How is parts availability for the '86? What about bigger pistons, stroker cranks and the such? I guess they make good aftermarket rotating parts? Hook me up.... I am new to your world. Thanks in advance!!

PS: I know a little about cars. My old heaprod Camaro went 10.83 in the 1/4 with a junk 406 small block Chevy without a poweradder weighing in at 3400 lbs. on Mickey Thompson "street tires".

What he said. Btw Atv engines are quiet simple especially if you have any mechanical knowledge. Get the manual if you have to go into the bottom end, but you could open up the top end with out a manual. But its always handy to have one. I'm sure wiesco do a piston for that quad also check out ebay you can come across some savings towards stock parts.
And WELCOME.
And WELCOME.
