I recently aquired a 1984 atc 200es and it was sitting up for a number of years. the carb was gumed up bad but we cleaned that, and got it working. the engine was running fine but the wheels seemd to have a hard time rolling. once you got rolling and shifted in to the next gear it liike wanted to kill untill u let off the gas, then press it and it tried to take off from a dead stop in that gear. i kept riding it, thinking that it woould break what ever was holding the wheels. we checked the gear oil in the rear and it was good. and the front wheel squeaks. after a while of this beating to the engine it had a bad idle and it only ran in choke. so i adjusted the idle screw to where it would stay idleling(at low rpm, not all fast). but it still only runs in choke when i relase the choke it kills. what is causing this problem? can any one help? once i get the engine running right again, i will bring it to a profesional to see about the roling problem. but if any one has any tips about that too it would be appreciated.

 

If it will only idle with the choke on, then either the idle speed is too low, or the pilot jet is plugged.

The hole in the pilot jet is extremely small, and it doesnt take much crud to plug it. When you remove it, look thru it, like looking down a straw, if you cant see light coming thru...its plugged. Sometimes, it takes a small wire, to break the clog out, and sometimes, its so attached, it wont come out. In that case, get a new pilot jet...they are about 5 bucks.

Check the wheel bearings and if its chain drive, check the carrier bearings..my guess is they are rusty. Also check the brakes..they could be rusty or packed with mud.

 

where is the poilt jet? i know where the idile screw is. im not SUPER familer w/ the carb, but if u like kinda can give me what to look for it would be apreciated. thanks. and yeah its not chain driven. so ima check the bearings

 

it is the long brass jet that is next to the main jet,,,located under the float bowl

about the size of a cigarette butt,,,only a little narrower

i believeit is pressed in rather than screwed in

pull it out and clean all the crud,,,,,maybe even get a new one

do what hondabuster said,,,and maybe use some high pressure air
