Oh yeah! Even with my buddy on saddle (good rider) the ol'e 310 smokes the Zilla and the Zilla has a new top end, carb, reeds, pipe and breathes direct through a K&N. He usually can get he jump on me over the woops, but I cruz past him doing another 5-10 MPH faster on the hill. Also, I am still running the 20 yr old lower end and cluch on mine with the 310. I will redo it after this season just because it's time, but I went out last weekend and everything is holding up good. I agree the big bore kits are not cheap, but I think there is a bunch of other cost that will come in on the 500 package that you may not be planning for. I am not saying don't do the 500, but I can tell you I am very pleased with mine.

Oh, I should thow this in too. Last year a guy on a Yami 450 was in our group on a ride and he called me "insane." Gentleman I am not insane so I asked what he meant. He said that my trike was fast through the dunes but, I was running way to fast on the sand highway and he lost sight of me in the first few minutes. I now run the stock gearing on the R. Before the 310, it was hard to get her up to speed on the flats quick, in fact she would bog on the sixth gear shift. Now the R has what she has been missing on the top end in the sand with paddles and it runs at the top of sixth without breaking a sweat or the worry of siezure.

hey 1bad450r
Sounds like you got some good info from the guys here. I don't personally know much about the subject but if you are still considering doing a big bore or the swap I would strongly reccomend calling Yakkie Racing in Ramona (san diego county). That is of course if you are in So Cal. The guys name is Rich Yakkie and he is a total guru with 3 and 4 wheelers. I have seen a trike he put the cr500 motor in and it looks amazing. Seriously I can't say enough good things about the guy. He charges far less than large shops. He built my 440ex in 2001 and the thing still runs perfectly. His number is 760-788-7065. If you call please tell him Dave with the yellow 440ex sent ya. Good luck

you will need to save more money for sure a 1000.00 bucks wont get it done maybe 2 to 3 times that.

PM HA2 he just did a 350 pro-x he could give you a good estimate on costs.

ok i'll chime in here,,,, i have a cr500 powered trike built out of a 86 250r,, look in my photo gallery , it doesn't vibrate the frame apart,,, its way faster than a big bore 250r,, i have had this trike for years,,, without any problems... if your going to try to do this on a buget forget it,,, the pipe alone will cost you plenty un less you can build it your self,,, everything will have to be hand built its not an easy project to do . it took me a year to build mine and do it right ,so if you got skills and all the tools to do it go for it,,,,

Well everyone in the world is on some sort of a budget, I dont have an endless supply of money for this. Considering that I have a complete bike and will get the cr500 engine for very cheap I think I should be able to finish the rest on 1500-2000 bucks. I just really want to know what mods it took to get this all to fit. I dont want to go into this blind and I dont want to play guessing games with the frame and positioning of the engine. There are a few people on here that have done it and I know that. Someone help me out please.

no matter what you decide its going to cost allot more than you are thinking, my bike was impossible to ride hard with just a +4" & was still pretty wheely happy with the +8" over on it now.

to get the CR500 to out run a well built 370 you are going to have motor work done to it which will cost you coin $$$$$$$

I just wanted to put a stock 500 engine in a 250r frame. Thanks for all the advice but I think Im just going to pay someone else to do it. Seems like it would be alot easier. Thanks anyway.
