85 250R Rear Shock
As long as you pay attention to the order of the parts as you take it apart, there is no problem rebuilding the shock. We rebuild shocks all the time at the shop, we did 3 (!!!) 200X shocks this week. I'd highly recommend buying a Clymer manual to aid in the rebuild process, otherwise call a local Honda shop to get the amount and weight of oil that you need.
With the shop I work at there could be two possible options, besides rebuilding it yourself, we offer a shock exchange program where you send us your shock and we will send you a fresh rebuild for a flat rate. The other option is to have us rebuild it, probably the cheaper route if there is nothing physically wrong with the shock. I don't know how much either option would cost, nor do I think we actually have a rebuilt 85 250R shock in stock. If you want I can check for you on Tuesday when we open.
