Man, it shouldn't be tough to fix. Never worked on that particular bike, but the pull cords I've changed haven't been that bad. Don't remove the actual recoil spring if you don't have to. Sometimes they'll remain wound-up in place, but be wary still as they can come flying out. As a means of roll-starting, you can get your machine on a hill, put it in about third facing down hill, get behind it and with the wheely bar, carry the rear-end as far as you can and drop it. Not good on the tranny but will work in a pinch.
