A legit question.
Not all dunes are the same.
From Razorbacks of Dumont, to the dunes among the trees of Oregon, from the hugeness of Glamis to steepnes of Sand Mountan.
They are all differant really and they have all sorts of differant things to do.
Dunes can be like your own rollercoaster or Hillclimbs all day then roosts and bermshots or bowlrunning and ridge riding.
Nothing like taking a huge slider on fresh corduroy.
Climbing as high as you can up a steep face, kicking a 180 and shooting back down.
Dune jumping on a dark night is truely a scary experience.

I went to Pismo for the first time myself as a kid in the late 60s so I could go for hours.

Once you have ridden in qualty sand, you will realize what ATVs were made for in the first place.

I compare dune riding to surfing, smooth, flowing and changing directions frequently. It is awsome. I grew up going to Gordons and Glamis. There really is nothing like it. Never trashed any bikes other than hard crashes. Too much speed + out of control riding + lots of BEER= hard crashes. my .02

Sand is the only place I ride. I have no desire to ride anywhere else. That is why I want to try to figure out this front tire business.
I still haven't heard from anyone if using a sand tire on the front would be beneficial in some way, so I’ll just keep the question going.

Lawnboy, every other person that has responded to this question has a very different opinion to what you have digressed upon. If you have any input that relates to this topic specifically, feel fee to state it. Otherwise your negative comments are unnecessary and unwanted.

Thanks for helping to get this thread back on track Wantabe! Once again, (to get this back to where we were!) I do not have any experience running a ribbed frount sand tire on my R and I am interested to hear from someone that can enlighten us on the pro's and or con's of a true front sand tire on a wheeler, but I have found the front knobby to provide plenty of bite and you can change the (knobby tire) bite to your preferences by simply playing with the air pressure in the tire.

LOL,,,,, good topic,,, i run mohawk front tires on all my trikes,,, i love them,,, i have even run a smooth buff on the front,,,, they work great,, the advantage is they steer good and don't disturb as much sand making it easier to steer,,,, oh by the way lawnmowerboy,,,, sand is clean,, it does not stick to anything clean, so if your ride is clean and not all greasy it will remain clean after a day long ride ,,,, on the other hand,, the mud sticks to everything and grinds away at every moving part,,,, i rode both alot till i moved to arizona,, not i ride the dunes all the time,,,, my chains and brakes all last longer than in the mud,,,, lets see you keep this trike this clean in the mud,,,, its been it the dunes 4 trips already,,,,, project ATC70X

70X ON SAND

OH BY THE WAY ,, go to some sand sites and look at some of the rides,, all chrome and bad paint jobs,,, you can't do that in the mud,,,, why do you think kids play in SAND boxes,,,, cause its NOT MUDDY,,,,,

Oh Young Grasshopper Lawnboy. You have much to learn about ATV's/ATC's. Don't get discouraged by some critisim. We get and give it around here. That is how we all learn from eachother. Some know more than others. Keep an open mind. Alot of us have been dunning many more years than you have been around. All types of terrain are hard on an ATC or ATV, that is why we ride them they are durable and can take the punishment we deal out on them. Other than SALTWATER, in my opinion there is not one worse than the other if you properly maintain your bike. You have had some good post here. Keep plugging away helping people and learning from people.
