Default 1984 250R compression???

Hi... I recently picked up a 84 Honda 250R ATC & I'm having some trouble getting it started. It seems to be getting plenty of gas & spark, but I'm thinking it's a compression problem, & was wondering if anyone knows what the compression should be on it, & what's the proper way to take the compression test on this engine? The result that I got, after the 3rd or 4th kick, was appx. 105-110 lbs. It seemed to go up appx. 30lbs. per kick, to a max of 105-110. That was also done on a cold motor, (as I'm having trouble getting it to start). Thanks for any help you can offer, I appreciate it very much. Thanks again, JTVette...

Welcome to the forums! That sounds low for the compression. I believe 135-150 psi is about right for a stock 84. Make sure you are holding your throttle wide open when kicking it over. 5-6 kicks should give you your max reading. Yes a cold engine is fine when checking it. Good luck and I'm sure more people will chime in with some more help.

Thanks for info, JkAss. I don't think I had the throttle open at all while doing the test. So I'll re-test it with the throttle open & see if it's any different. And thanks for the welcome too. These forums are great, been doing ALOT of reading in here lately, & got alot more still too do. Thanks again. JTVette...
