1986 250rd big red ignition problem Please Help
Hi.... My big red just started giving me this odd problem. All of a sudden it has started to loose spark when I trying to crank it. As I spin it over, I get a few (2-3) sparks at the plug then the sparks stop. When I release the start button and then press it again, the same thing happens. Since it takes a second or two for gas to get into the cylinder, The engine doesn't even try and crank. But If I spin it over with the on/off button in off position and then as it is spining push the button to on... the engine trys to crank as the 2-3 sparks ignite the gas that is in the cylinder.
This problem started all of a suddon.... one day it was fine one day it started. And it does happena ll of the time. Sometime I can go out and it will start right up and ryn great. I will then kill it... and it won't start....
Please help... any ideas???? Pulse Generator? CDI????

You can tast each item, dissconect the wires that come out of your motor and test for spark, yellows for lights and black is your hot if that has spark your stator is fine. Next rehook up the wires and dissconect the wire going to your coil and test for spark . Test pulsar same as coil, you also can have a honda shop test them for you. If I had to guess I would say its the cdi going bad. If you buy one from ebay make sure it came from a running bike. hope this helps.

Hi... Thanks for responding. I am at a real lost here. I tested the coil by putting it on my 200s ATC. It worked great. I then triend to test the pulser generator and exciter but I can't get my test light to light up. I think it is because the pulses are too fast for my test light to light up. According to my test light I don't have any power coming out of the Alternator or pulser towards the CDi and Volt regulator. However, I know I do have power out of the alternator and pulser becasue I get 3-4 sparks when I first spin the engine. So I think my test light is to blame for nopt showing me any power.
If I have 3-4 sparks when I first start to spin the engine up wouldn't that mean a bad CDI? Or could a pulse be bad and only give 3-4 pulses when I spin the engine?
