I was just going from what he said but then again he did get it home and it didnt run sence and you said "This ATC starts on the first or second pull every time." and he got it home and it never ran again. Also no SOLD AS IS... You did say it needed a restoration so I dont see why that he seemed surprised on that. So that is where I got my information about this. I was just stating the facts and I should not have used the words I used. I was just trying to tell him that I got it alot worse then him. And now that guy is no longer on ebay after that. So he knew what he did was WRONG!!! He really did not describe it the way it was. I contacted him and he told me a bunch of BS about how he did not know any problems I had but he worked on it. But we are not trying to agure just tryin to help out jason to get this running. I think he only has a couple of prolems to fix and it will be good to ride.

No problem dude, I hate buying something and then feeling burnt, and I'm always up front in any sale I make. It just really gets me that it ran good for me, even when he left it did start on the second pull! Hope it's a simple solution for ya Jason.

I wasnt suprised at its condition, I was just saying that I have all this money into it and its still in need of cosmetics. When Josh started the ATC up, which was on the second pull, it ran great and the only problem I noticed was a hesitation at throttle, which he DID state in the auction description. I left his house very happy with my purchace. After I got out of the rain, I stopped in some mall parking lot to get in some riding. Yeah, 10 years waiting for this, I didnt care if it was a gas station. I was gonna ride it. So, I tried to start it for atleast 15 minutes. After it wore the blister on my finger, I drove to a nearby gas station and gave Josh a call. He indicated that the choke was to be all the way up. I was trying to start it with the choke all the way down. So, I tried it his way right there in the back of the truck in the gas station parking lot. Pulled for 5 minutes and got tired and decided to head home. Anticipation got the best of me a couple hours away, so I stopped at a rest station and tried it again. This time I pulled out the spark plug and put gas directly in the hole. 5 mintues of pulling, with no start. So I accepted defeat and headed home. Get it home and check for spark before anything. NONE. So, I pick up a new spark plug and (used but tested good) coil. Yeah, Josh put on a new coil but I didnt know anything else to try. I put on the coil and plug and tried it. Nothing.
A few days ago, I find out the spark plug boot was loose and put the wire directly on the plugs post. Whoa, weve got spark now!
Sooo....thats where we are at now. Ive got the plug at .030 and its getting fuel and its getting spark. I still think the spark isnt strong enough to ignite the mixture. Perhaps is getting too much gas flooding out the sparkplug? Maybe Itd be a good idea to pull off the carbeurator and see whats up..
Im not willing to accept total defeat on this. After all, it does have a good running motor. Its just an electrial issue. Like HondaAtcRoxz says, after the electrical gremlin is found, it will be a good running(and fun) ATC.

yes it could be running too rich. From what it sounded like in the description that it would hessitate and bog down is a sign of runnin too rich. Pull the carb off clean it out good check and see the main jet size. Put the needle jet clip up a notch put it back together and see how it will try to run. If it trys to run but still doesnt then I would take the clip down another notch.

Ok guys, BIG update!
I am 95% sure weak spark isnt the problem. Im pretty sure its just flooding out.
I took the carb off, and left the black piece on the motor. I sprayed two spirts of fuel directly into the cylinder. It takes a few pulls, but the fuel DOES fire! I got a couple backfires and got a couple full revolutions out of the motor. Longest it ran was about 2 seconds. I did clean the carb prior to this, but I guess something else is wrong with it. I did bench test the carb by hooking the gas tank to it to see if fuel was dribbling out the intake port. There was none, so I dont understand why the carb is flooding out the motor. When I had the carb on the motor, EVERY time I took out the spark plug, it was soaked with fuel. The fuel had to be killing the spark.
So, I guess a new carbeurator is on the list rather than electrical components.
Or perhaps a rebuild kit?

Good news. That probably was the main problem the hole time.
I dont think you need anything. You just need to check the main jet needle and where the clip is on it. Unscrew the top of the carb and pull out the slide. You will need to take the throttle cable out. Then there will be a clip in the top of it take it out with a pair of needle nose plires then pull the needle out. The clip will probably be pretty low on the needle. Move that little clip up and put it back together. Then try that. If you get the clip all the way to the top of the needle with the clip and it still flooding out then your main jet is too big or your needle jet seat is wallowed out. Try these tips and see if it runs.
Did you check your main jet size???

It was on the second slot. I moved it up a slot each time trying to start it. Ive got to the 5th slot now. It tried to start twice on the fourth slot. I guess a new carb is in order...
Main jet size? What and how?

The main jet should have what size it is on it. It is on the very bottom of the carb the the long piece with the hold in the middle after you take the bowl off. Did you make sure that your spark plug was clean and dry after every notch change???

I just messed up my wrist trying to start this thing. Im putting it back together and will later decide what to do with it. Looks like I wont be toying with it any time soon. Thanks for everything!
