I notice on my atc that if I rock the rearend left and right with the grab bar I got a lil clunk. There is no up and down play at all. Any one know what might be the problem or maybe this is normal? I am getting ready to change the rear brake shoes, do I need to pull the axle out to change them?

i had the same problem with mine but i found out that the hubs were alittle loose so i tightned the nuts and that fixed the problem so try that first and if not then it might be the bearings.

 

Axle removal not required. Just remove the 2 axle locking nuts, brake drum cover bolts, slide back the cover, and then remove the brake drum itself. Sometimes, this can be the hardest part of the whole procedure but be sure to not hit the drum directly with any hard blunt object or you will end up busting it. After you slide all those pieces toward the right rear tire, you will have the room needed to quickly change out those brake shoes. Be sure to remove the brake activating cam and grease it well also while you are in there.

 

Thanks for the tips! I got the new shoes installed. Found both rear wheel hubs needed tightening. However, with the new shoes I am having a tough time getting the cables to go back in the drum actuator. I think I need to adjust the actuator lever up some is this normal? I can get the foot pedal cable nut to start, but not the hand brake cable. Thanks again.

While adjusting the brakes up, I noticed a crack in the frame near where the rear foot brake lever attaches to the frame. Its cracked near where a smaller diameter frame tube is welded to the main part of the frame that the foot peg attaches to. Its cracked about 3/4 way around the pipe. I have no idea how long it has been like that, was probably there when I got it. Should I get it welded, or just let it go? Any suggestions?

I would go ahead and have it welded up. If it is a main support and it breaks then you will be in some trouble. Frame might twist and then be junk...
