hello fellas this is my first post here so if it has been covered before don't slam me too bad.anywho,i have a premo 1985 honda big red 250es.i am its second owner and the first was super cautious with it,he even went so far as to put rubber tubing arout the racks so as to not scratch them with stuff.i have had it approximately 6 years and have done nothing to it except for changing the oil and filter and differential oil on it.when i got it it still had the original tires on it and had most of the traed on them but they were dry rotted.so i replaced them with a knobby on the front and big fat meaty 13.5" wide spider tracs on the rear.so to my problem,it has always been a little hard to shift into second until after warming up and that it what i attributed it to until now.well,i rode it this past wkend and it never did get easier to shift i almost had to pull up real hard on the foot shifter and then it wanted to lurch into gear.does anyone have any thoughts on this problem.for years i just said that it needed to warm up and get the oil warmed up to shift smoothly but it is getting worse.

My 125 was doing something similar when the idle was set too high. Also, the chutch might be set a little too tight.

 

kev,i have my idle set down probably too low i have it loping like a harley so that probable is not it.now the clutch thing might be a go.is it easy to adjust?my mechanical skills are somewhat limited,i am no honda tech in other words.so should i just take it to the honda shop,i want to put a twist throttle on it anyway or is that fairly easy to accomplish?will i harm it to ride it in this condition?
