Default 85 honda 125m hard shift

Hey all,
Just got my wife a 1985 Honda 125M 3 wheeler for a 100.00 bucks it has been sitting for 3 yrs in a garage.
Previous owner told me he added stabil to the gas but again 3 yrs ago.
I drained all gas from Rustfree tank and removed the carb, I did not clean the carb only cleaned the filet screen on the bottom and drained all the old gas.

reinstalled everything add fresh gas second pull it fires right up.
yeah !! I shut it off checked oil was dirty but full, aired up the tires, first pull starts right up sounds great, give it a test drive, put in first seems ok go to shift to second very hard clunk but it goes then it popped out of second is in between first and second ( the other neutral I will call it) have to shift up very hard on shifter 2 times to keep it in gear.

today I drained all the oil add fresh castrol motorcycle 4 cycle oil 10 w40.

tried again seems better when in Low worse in High range on tranny shift.
but still same problem, does not stay in gear have to shift basically twice then hear a big bang but it stays then.
could the clutch plates be too dry or worn out or is it more serious as a tranny problem?

here is a pic of it really nice and clean has front and rear racks too

Thanks in advance

Well to answer my question, I stuck the 3 wheeler rear end on jack stands and let her run about 25 min. shifting through the gears , first in low then in high range .
seems to have cured it my best guess is that the clutch plates (friction disc) were very dry from sitting and it just took a matter of time to wet them again.

Or some dirt was in there now since draining the oil it is working .
who knows but I am going for the first guess as being dryed out.

Good Deal TimberedWolf250!

I was going to suggest adjusting the auto clutch mechanism. I have seen clutch plates stick together like that before. And after only sitting a few months.

I spoke too soon, she took it out this morning and said it is doing it again, hard to go in gear have to shift twice like if it has a worn shift fork .

I have a manual ordered

I am going to asume you have either a 84 or 85 125m here. This style motor is basically the same design as a Honda 90-110. The most 2 common cause of shifting problems on this style motor is the "Stopper Pawl" breaks or the screw / bolt for the shifter tumbler comes loose.

If you have the right side cover removed you should be able to see these items. The stopper pawl normally breaks right at the 90 degree bend point. that is what happened to my bike. Assuming you can get the right side cover off this a 10 minute $7 fix. This plaged me for years until I fixed it.
