My son just got a 1982 Honda 200 and the pull start hardly ever catches. Any tricks to making this work? Occasionally it does not recoil as it should.

if you have all the parts it should work. reset the recoil it is very easy than after winding the spring up put the 3 gears in it that has 3 meatle things that work like a spring sort of and also there is a spring that goes in the center than put the top plate on with the worsher and lock nut thing. than pull the string and all 3 teeth should come out than let go of the rope and it should go back in and the 3 gears should also go back in it is easier than it sounds

yea, its pretty easy to take the pull starter off. just be careful when u take the little washer off the top. theres a spring under there so hold the plate down. i usually just push the washer off with a screwdriver and on with a pliers. probably not the easiest, but it works for me. hope u can figure it out.

I have had it apart several times. The three "levers" don't come out easily and I had to bend one of the springs to make it work. Can I get replacements?

That is it! The housing it sits in looks worn as does the "sprocket" that it turns to start the engine. Are these parts also available?

if u dont mind spending some money this might be ur best option. otherwise i havent really seen any of those parts sold seperately. there are quite a bit of used ones on ebay that work and u could swap parts out to make it work. thats what i plan on doing. i just dont want to spend $60 on something new when they have used ones for 20-30. hope this helps.

How cool! Ok, thanks but one more question! What is the little spring looking thing and where does it go on the assembly. I do not have one of these! Perhaps that is my problem. On the last link you sent me it is the item on the bottom right near the handle.
