Default Just acquired a 1985 Honda Big Red 200cc(i think) and have a few Q's

A good family friend bought a drag race car setup with a trailer a few years back and it came with this three wheeler as a pit bike. I recently found out he was trying to sell it and told him right away I wanted to buy it. Long story short he said I can just have it if I got it off the side of his house. It runs awesome but needs to be jump started because the battery is shot and the pull starter wont wind up.

I was told it is a 1985 Honda Big red 200cc but I dont really see anywhere on the bike that tells any of this so Im not sure if hes 100% correct or not. Can anyone verify by this picture what exactly it is?

Also it needs a new gas tank due to rust it leaks, as well as a new pull starter. Any suggestions on where to buy parts for this. Also a big question is what gas tanks are interchangeable on these? Do I have to get one for an 85 200cc or will the 250cc tank fit?

And lastly.. I love this thing and always wanted one!

congrats on the nice big red man .... plastic and metal tanks can be found on E-Bay ... a new plastic will run around $210 i dont know about interchanging between models ... you can decode your vin# here... Decode Your Honda ATC VIN ...it should tell you what you have ... there is also other sight that are for the ATC ... 3WHeeLeR WoRLD - Forums, Brochures, Specificiations, Technical Assistance, and More! and www.3wheelerworld.org ... good luck with it

In 84, I believe, they added shaft drive and reverse. Does yours have these things? Sometimes when you use the VIN decoder, you will find that the bike can be made up of parts from different years.

This looks like my 82 200E before I put the plastic tank on. 82 has chain drive and no reverse.

Check here for the brochures for your year and model.

By the tank decals this looks to be an 83 200E, and they did not make a 200E after 1983. After 83 they were called an ES.

That is in nice shape. Too bad about the tank. Tanks for an 82 or 83 200E, or 84 85 200ES will all fit. 250 tank will not. The tank looks good in the photo, I would try to fix it. Nice ones are hard to come by. As said before if you have a chain drive it is probably a 200E, shaft drive w/reverse it is 84 or 85 200ES.
As far as parts... DrATV OPERATES HERE is good. They have the pull starter parts and kit, so does Dennis Kirk. I restored an 82 200E a few years ago (pics are in my sig). I'm working on a 83 200E for my brother-in-law and just ordered some parts from Honda. Plastics are tough to find for that machine, no one like Maier makes the rear fenders so you have to find a decent used one.

Can't help you on anything about the age of the machine, but congrats on getting a fine ride.
