ATC125M old school
#1
I am new here but I thought a forum was the best place to come for this type of question. I have a 1985 ATC125M with a bad tranny and/or clutch. I also have a TRX125. I have always wanted a 125m with reverse so I will be swapping. I do have a question for the more seasoned folks on here. I already have the gasket kit and I will be pulling the motor anyways, so I was looking for more era-appropriate mods for the engine. I know I could just do a crate motor swap and I would be better off but I want to keep it as much Honda as possible. I'm fairly good with the small vertical singles but I am lacking on the horizontals. For instance, I know with the old Honda 125 vertical cylinder engines I could use a sleeve and piston from a SOHC CB750 to get a big bore kit out of it. These are the type of questions that used to be asked at races but unfortunately there are none in my area. I used to call it "tribal knowledge" So I guess that's my question here I guess. What are some old school type engine mods you folks would like to share? Different cam to throw in? Piston from a different model that would be a bit higher compression? Anything at all? I am aware that it is only a 125 single so I'm not expecting anything that noticeable, I just enjoy the work. Thanks in advance to anyone that helps out. I truly appreciate it
