I have just aquired a really nice atc 110, when I depress the shift lever down it does not pop back up, I have to pull it up slightly w/ my toe and then it engages the gear, if I do this each time I shift it goes through the gears nicely, my question is which spring needs changed (there are atleast 3) in the transmission parts blow up, can anyone help, I`d just as soon order the right spring before I tear into it, other than that its agreat bike.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

 

First of all welcome to the forum.........I personally can not answer your question, but there is a member on here called "knowsalot" that I am sure will answer your question within a day or so..........

 

I believe you may have a bent shift fork or possibly shift shaft is bent.my opinion

 

Have you tried adjusting the clutch?
On the right side their might be cover in the center of the case, remove it if it has one if not skip this step.
Then loosen the nut (12mm I believe).
Then turn the bolt counter clock wise until you fill some tension then turn it back it down some, about a 1/4 turn.
When you tighten the nut back down make sure the bolt doesn't move.

Your problem could be a few different things......like those that you and others have already mentioned.

The sad fact of gear shifting problems, is that so many different parts can go bad and have the same symptoms. You will not know for sure what you need until you get in there.

[1] Bent shift fork or cracked shift drum
[2] Broken shift detent arm spring
[3] Shift shaft return spring
[4] Badly worn shift shaft arm


One or even more than one of the above parts can be causing your problem.

The shift shaft mechanism pieces will be easiest to eliminate being that only the left engine side cover need to be removed to get access to them.

Knowsalot, thanks for the info, I adjusted the clutch adjustment in and that did the trick, only problem is I had to go all the way in (it was only about 1 1/2 turn out) then back it out some (I`m assuming the clutch is about toast), mIt worked really nice in low and slipped in high gear?, any help?, is it clutch time?, also where are the best places to order parts being its an 84, parts may be scarce??, thanks so much; bardahlracing

 

You can get clutch and springs from DennisKirk.com I believe.

Did you turn the bolt counter clockwise or clockwise? It needs to be turned counter clockwise.

 

If the clutch is slipping in high gear it's time for new plates. (it's probably slipping in the lower gears but it is not as noticeable)
