I still see a lot of these old trikes in use today, a true testament to their design and durability. But, I have never ridden one or even taken a very close look at one. What was the difference in those two model designations? Was one an electric start? Or was one simply faster? I don't believe either one had a reverse gear.

Hey MALOCHALA,

The S was recoil start. Sold from '84-'86. It replaced the 185S that was last sold in '83. The 200S had 22" tires.

The M model was more or less a base model version of the 200 Big Red. It had the 200BigRed chassis and 25" tires. It had the 200S engine except with electric start. It didn't have reverse or hi-lo range.

The 200M was faster on the top speed due to the taller tires, but wasn't very much faster because of it's extra weight and the sprocket gearing to accomadate those taller tires.

I concur with knowsalot. It was Big Red minus the racks. That's what I took it for when it came out.

So where does the plain 200 fall in there? I have an '83 200 with stock 25" tires, pull start, and no hi-lo or reverse.

The '81-'83ATC 200 models which are better known as the "big tire" 200's were replaced by the 200M.

The 200S that was released in '84 replaced the small tire 185..........['81-'83 185S]

Alot of guys get confused with all these models because the '80 185 [non-S] had the big tires. Honda put the bigger cylinder on this ATC the following year and called it the 200. No other differences between it and the '80 185 big tire.

1980 only ATC185...25x11-9 tires, round headlight, rope start, no reverse.
chain drive. Body work was shared with 1981-1983200 except for the front fender on the '83.

1981-1983 ATC185S..22x11-8 tires, square headlight, rope start, no reverse
chain drive, 1983 had front suspension and large gas cap. Body work was unique to this model.

1981-1983 ATC200...25x11-9 tires, square headlight, rope start, no reverse
chain drive, 1983 had front suspension and large gas cap. Body work was shared with 1980 ATC185. 1983 200 has unique front fender.

1982-1983 ATC200E..25x11-9 tires, square headlight, elec. & rope start, no reverse, hi/lo sub trans., front suspension and large gas cap.Body work was shared with 200ES and M models.

1984 only ATC200ES.25x11-9 tires, square headlight, elec. & rope start,
HAS reverse, hi/lo sub trans., front suspension and large gas cap.Body work shared with 200E and 200M.

1984-1985 ATC200M..25x11-9 tires, square headlight, elec. & rope start,
no reverse, front suspension and large gas cap. Body work was shared with '82-'84ATC200E and ES models.

1984-1986 ATC200S..22x11-8 tires, square headlight, rope start, no reverse , front suspension and large gas cap. Body work was unique to this model.

Hopefuly this will help you figure out exactly which model it is that you have. Just hope that it isn't a variety of used parts from all of them. If you are still un-sure, just post the serial number.

Wow, I'm impressed. Have you got a book with this stuff in it, or was that just off the top of your head?
