the question is, is that little lock ring on the rear axle the only thing that holds it together. there is just a set of splines on the axle where the big nut goes on. the set of threads are splined to fit over them. the disk goes over first then the nut and all that is there is that little lock ring on the end. it might just be me or am i missing somthing. do you guys know what i am talking about?

thanks in advance.

Yes, the little ring holds it all together...

Yes it sounds like you've got it figured out...

It's got a collar that goes over it to make sure it can't pop out. The system works well, never had any trouble out of it on any of my Honda machines over the years.

If you don't have a service manual, take a look at partsfish.com to see the diagram. This IS how it works, and it DOES work well. Happy roosting.

The round snap ring should have a secondary grooved collar that fits over it.
Hub
External threaded spline with locknuts
Grooved collar
Snapring

This system works awesome for those neglectful types. I have gotten trikes that the locknut was seized to the spline. All ya gotta do is take a chisel, and cut that outer groove collar piece and you can disassemble the axle. (Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it is still difficult to get apart)

that's how it works just make sure you have the collar that slides over the snap ring, everything will push against that and tighten up. I have mine all in pieces right now, waiting for my extended swing arm to get out of the powdercoat shop

thansk alot for all of your information, that is what i was using parts fish diagram i thought i was missing somthiung.that little ring is somting elese holding that whole axle on there. that is what was wrong with mine it was all seized up to the splines. i had tocut the old lock ring off of it and the undo every thing it works pretty well with an air chizzle. any one of you guys have a rear skid plate laying around for a 350x or a 200x even an R ??

I've got one for an R, but there's a reason it's not on the machine-it's pretty beat up. PRM makes nice swingarm guards. They do make one for your machine but it's about $90 bucks. Do a yahoo search for PRM Products if you want to take a look at one.
