I was wondering if there is any way to make my 350x to start a little easier. I bored it .020 put it back together and now you need to be Popeye to start the d**m thing. Is there anything with the decompression cable I can do to make it easier to start. It moves a little when trying to start it but Im not sure it is working. Help my foot hurts!!!!!!!

I also recently had my '85 350X punched 20 over ,and like you,I must admit it takes a manly stomp to make it breathe fire.I think we're stuck with it this way.I consider it a small price to pay for the absolute COOL FACTOR of riding the biggest and most stylish trike ever made.

yall aren't kidding about how hard they are to start. a friend of mine had one for a couple months that was bored 20 over too. he could start it on about the 2nd or 3rd kick, but he could also stand up on the kick starter a lot of times. hes only 5'1 about 120 lbs. and he is fully grown. but that thing would fly. the only thing i didn't like about it was it had a loud cobra pipe on it. it wasn't that hard for me to kick, but i am quite a bit bigger than him so that could have been it. i wish i would have had 700 dollars to buy it from him when he still had it.

i used to have one i would kick it over slowly until i got to the top of the stroke then threw all my weight into it and that would get it to start. it takes some practice to get the procedure down but once you do it will be easy for you to start.

how can you tell when it is at the top of its stroke. Ive been trying to find the right combo to start it ( i know theres a trick to it) but i just get frustrated and start kickin the crap out of it Is an electric start very pricy and is it worth it. Thanks Im glad im not the only one with a sore leg.

I don't think an electric starter is worhwhile.Mine generally starts on the first kick though...There have been a few times though when I slam down on the kick only to have it stop me dead-cold in mid stroke.

I have a 350X and found that it was alot easier to start with the compression release cable detached. You can feel the engine stroke much better, allowing you to find the compression stroke. The compression release is only functional for the first half of the kick starter stroke, so that is why it kicks back sometimes. Good Luck

I kick it slowly with the choke on, kill swtich off for about 5-10 kicks. By slowly I mean like 1/2 of what you'd do to try to start it. Turn the kill switch on and cross your fingers. There should be around 1/16th of an inch free play where the decompression lever goes into the head cap below the gas tank. I used the above procedure when it was around 20 degrees and they were just comming out of winter storage, I couldn't belive they started, even my '86 with 12:1 piston. When its warmer like 50 degrees I can get mine started on 3rd kick without using the above procedure and using 1/2 choke.

just ease the kickstarter around until you meet good resistance, then just put weight on it until it goes past compression (just barely) then kick the crap out of it from all the way from the top. repeat till it starts (looks kinda weird but it works on every one Ive ever seen. I have people at the dunes come get me just to show people how easy it is.
