Just make sure it isnt off camber (the face isnt tilted to one side), other than that I don't think you can mess up building a jump, just don't make it too big. I had a jump that I built and everytime I hit it I would do a nose dive, but my neighbor told me that leveling the face out would fix that, and sure enough it did. Now I can get twice as high and twice as far without a problem.

when i build jump i usually take big logs that are cut longer than the width of my kfx and then pile dirt on one side. This is an easy way to make a small jump without shoveling as much dirt. I made one that was small like this and i made some others the same way but i used old skidds too. After i piled the dirt on one side of the big log i put the skids on top of it and cover them up with dirt too. this made it higher and perfectly smooth and level too. You can look at my profile and see some pics of me jumping them.

ok, bad idea. Having just wood is not a real safe idea. Depending on how you put it together(ie: nails, bolts, no support under the ramp, etc.) It could break on ya as your coming off causing some seriously bad get offs. Take the time, grab a shovel, pick, and a wheel borrow. I did it for a while as well, and its the only way to build a safe jump. The others had a good idea with using "base" material, but you have to add DIRT to it as the jump.

ok first of all we used nails and screws and this thing is pretty sturdy. i started adding dirt already and when i have the time i will add more and more dirt. so the wood finally becomes the base and not the actual jump. but for now it works. its hard to manage school, homework and all the other things that come with being a teenager along with my riding time. and of course i always have my helmet, goggles and gloves on when jumping. matt

Believe it or not I too was a teenager not to terribly long ago(I'm 22), and I'd trade the "burden" of school any day for my 7-5 job. Believe me kid you've got it good. And you've got a 250r??? Yea your living the high life kid. Hope the whole ramp building things works out good. Good luck.
