Okay guys...I need some help/advice. I found out that there's a spot in Michigan where quads race. They even have a woman's class. It's over in Portland and the Portland Trail Riders sponsor the event. Well, I got my 2002 400ex last June and I didn't think I wanted to race it. Well, after going to the Baja MX race Labor Day, I'm all pumped about racing. Does anybody race quads? What do you have to do to start racing and what is recommended? I probably wouldn't be able to start racing until next spring, but I would like to start getting stuff together for it...and even start practicing. I'm gonna ask a couple of my buddies that race dirtbikes MX to help train me...but if there's anybody in Mich that wants to help that'd be cool. I'm all about meeting up with more quad riders. Mindi...its real simple to get into racing. First off...are you gonna race MX??? Many organizers require nerf bars and kill switch for MX racing. As far as knowing how to get started, go check out some of the races in your area and ask others racers what is required to race at that event(membership, entry fees, etc.). Once you find out that info...its as easy as showing up..signing up..lining up and racing... As far as your 400EX goes...practice..practice..practice...start off at a comfortable pace and try picking up speed on the ground..not in the air!!! Don't start off trying to nail the doubles until you are confident you can control the quad speed and positioning. Fixing up the quad will come when you realize your getting too agressive for its ability and will need to upgrade suspension, engine, etc.....Most of all, have fun. If something gets too scarry for you..back off until you are comfortable enough to attempt it again. Hope this helps...Good Luck!!!

Yeah. That helps out a lot. This is my first clutch and I love it...I'm just not real confident with it yet. I think I need to start riding it daily to get more comfortable on it. I've riden a quad since I was like 4 or 5, but it was an automatic clutch. I know a lot of the MX quad racers have been racin since they were kids so I have a lot of catching up to do. I doubt that I will be ready to race this year (?) probably next spring. What kind of gear do you guys prefer and what brand? I heard Fox's quality has gone down hill, but I dunno. Thor is pretty good but I dunno. What's your opinion?

I only wear Fox...head to toe....but thats just my opinion Like I said...get comfortable with it first...because when your on the line and the adrenaline starts pumping, you'll want to push harder than you may be ready to. Start off in a beginner class...my first race..I finished last because I just wanted to get the feel for the course and the other riders. I just started after the gate dropped..and let everyone pass me before the first turn. After that first race...believe me...you'll start telling yourself "I could do better than that"....then thats it...your hooked for life...

GREAT!!! We need more gals racing!!
Gear: Fleshgear has some really cool "fleshgirl" stuff,,it's awsome.
Race place: Hope you can make it to the GNC race @ Red Bud in Buchanan Mich. They have a Womens B/C class that you will fit right into.
You will need a tether switch and nerfs.
Good luck and have fun!!!!!

"girlstuff"...hmmm...ummm....No. I'm not about the pinks and the purples and the rose colored gear. I want the gear to actually match my helmet or quad. I'll probably stick with Fox at first then maybe Thor later??

Most of the girl gear out there that I have seen are either Pink, a light blue with pink, or some other pastel color. Not for me.
