Default Hiper Wheels and big rocks

I am trying to get feedback, but have not been that successful, so I will try here..... Any problem running hiper wheels in really rocky races (I do desert races)??? I know hiper wheels are repairable, however I do not want to risk having downtime if they are going to have problems with rocks.... Any feedback will be appreciated.....

You won't find much stronger. The GNCC guys do fine with them, that can be brutal.

Default Hiper Wheels and big rocks

I have known some people who have used hiper tech wheels for desert racing. They let go and exploded on them. It happen to Greg Row a few years ago down in Mexico. I think he did not even got to the first check point. I know they made my DS handle bad. They work great for MX and XC racing where the max speed is 50 or 60 MPH for a short period of time. In the desert you will be going 80 or 90+ MPH for longer time and if you hit a rock with the Carbon fiber wheel at that speed they explode. If you hit a rock at that speed with an aluminum wheel you can pound it out and make it to the next pit stop.

I have been running them for a year doing district 37 desert races in so. cal on my Z440. I love them and have not had a single problem with them. Plan to use them doing selected BITD races next year.

Hey Marshall,

It's Brandon. I have a Hi-per Tech Wheels sponsorship so you know I will talk good about them, but as you know I have many years with all the companies and I have settled on Hi-Per Tech. They are so light, extremely durable, and very easy to change out your own tires. When are you coming to the next WORCS race? You have to see my new race bike!

from what ive read on the hiper site, the idea seems to be that a carbon fiber wheel can flex where as an ally one wouldnt it would just deform permanently, and as for 80- 90 mph rock bashings if that would make a carbon wheel explode i would image an ally wheel would collapse beyond rideability, i may be wrong tho

i would love a set of hipers,

I think you can mess up pretty much any wheel. My friend cracked a .190 douglas rim jumping a double on his shee. But I think if you are hitting alot of rocks trail riding a aluminium wheel would scratch and dent alittle but a carbon would keep chipping. But not sure this is just a guess.
