GNCC RULES ON 4 X 4 CLASSES
#6
I race the series but not in the utility class so the following information is close to right but I will not guarentee it to be exact. I believe there are either four or five classes that are considered a utility class. The classes are broken down by stock vs modified and also wheater the bike is chain or shaft drive. Now when you enter the race, all the class structure does is establish the lowest class that you can enter. For example, if you race a stroked and ported 1000cc Big Bear the lowest class that you can run would be a modified shaft driven utility class but if you wanted to you could get in the Pro class. Usually the majority of the Polaris Sports run in the chain driven utility classes. A few will venture into the Open A and Open B classes but usually one race is all it takes for them to reconsider.

I just got back from the GNCC banquet and at the meeting they have on Sunday morning to discuss the 2000 season several of the utility riders asked for class structure changes. They were basically asking for the classes to be restructured into three classes:
2 stroke stock
4 stroke stock
unlimited
Just thought you might be interested.

I really think that's the way it should be! Only problem is that in 4-stroke stock you might have a Suzuki Quadrunner 250 4x4 running against a Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4.
I guess there isn't enough riders in each class to seperate it into engine size as well?
I think Mike should be running unlimited though.

Actually, I think it would work pretty well. For the most part the utilities are pretty much evenly matched. As far as your comparison, I would prefer the 250. The 500 might have a bigger engine but everything wrapped around that engine is much bigger. Overall, for the average rider the disadvantages of the would 500 outweigh the advantage. By the way, Mike is the one who recommended the changes.
