MX Tires
#1
I need to know what a good tire and wheel setup would be for my R (MX)... I know i am going to get 18 rear and 20 fronts, but i don't know what kinda tire i should get, (Razr, Klaw, MXR4, Turf Tammers..Etc) And on the razr i can only find 8 inch rims, is there a big difference between 8/9/10 inch rims? I am looking to spend around $400 +/- , so no beadlocks... I was looking at the T-9s or the dougles .190s. Maybe the T9 Baja.. Thanks for any help..

If you are going to do mx you have to at least get the t9 baja wheels. Regular wheels will bend. All mx tires are good. The Razr's, Holeshot's, and Turf Tammers are good. I don't know anything about kenda's though. You want to get an 8 or 9 inch rim for mx.

So you want to race on flats eh?! (no beadlocks)..
8"wheel size must be the schnitz. That's what's on 99% of the machines at the GNC.
Some like Razors (like me) some like ITP. I'd think all are good. Razors have 3 different weights/thickness of MX tires.

From what I've seen, the Razr MX tires have a slightly stiffer compound and wear longer. I have 18 inch MXR4's on my raptor, and my cousin had 18 inch Razr MX's on his z400. We both had pipes, filter, jets last season, and his tires look fresher now than mine do. As far as all out traction went, we never really had any good runs together because either I was out with a broken wrist, or he was.
Because the Razr's seem to have a stiffer compound (depending on the wall thickness you get) they might spin more in the mud and hook up better on blue groove tracks. But, you can usually make up for the difference somewhat with air pressure adjustments.
I would go with either the MXR4, the new ITP supercross-style tire, or the Razr MX. You also have the option with most of going with either an 18 inch rear, or 19 inch rear.
