Just bought myself a set of riding boots, and am used to riding with normal hiking style boots. My problems is that I cannot seem to get my foot under the shifter unless I sit as far forward as I can. This of course is a bad thing for various reasons. I have lifted the shifter up so it sits higher, but am wondering if there is anything else I can do to help make grabbing the shifter easier. Does anyone make a modified shifter designed to work with riding boots on?

 

Wait for the boots to break in and for you to get used to them.

Hey what kind of machine, is the shifter lever spline to be adjusted. I got my Alpinestar Tech 6 boots last year and had the same problem. I just moved the shifter up a bit and it is great. Yeah the boots will break in but if you really gotta bend your foot, then move the shifter.

I ride a banshee, they dont have the adjusters on them its a solid type connection to the shift cam. I dont like lifting the shifter because now I have to lift my whole leg to shift up. Before I could just use the peg as a fulcrum and roll my foot back and it would bang into gear. Would one of the aftermarket shift stars help shorten the shift any? Oh, and its not just that the boots are stiff, I cant physically fit the boot under the shifter when it is in stock postion unless my toes are pointing strait down (that is why I have to sit so far forward).

 

I am not sure about anything aftermarket for the shifter.

But, I have a Banshee and when I got my new boots I had the same problem. I actually could not ride with my son in front for a long time. Yes, you will feel like you have to sit all the way on the tank and piont your toes straight down.

Basically with your riding boots, leverages of the shifting change. How the riding boot pivots on the peg is different than any other regular footwear.

Walk around a lot in your boots and keep riding. Pretty soon you will comfortable in shifting and even be able to have you butt hanging off the back end while doing it.

The only time I notice the boots and the shifter is on the starting line. But I think that was more from making sure the right gear is selected and my body position needs to be perfect.

 

You could try lowering the pegs. I`m a tall guy and did this on my Warrior because they were to high for me. I then needed to adjust the shifter down so I didn`t have to lift my whole foot also. It`s not too diffuct or expesive either, just another option for ya. HTH

you might think about having your shifter shortened about an inch or so, that took care of alot of my shifting problems.

Well after alot of looking arounds, I have come up with this.. Rocky Mountain ATV sells a shorter shift lever. Other than that I think me and my big feet have some fabrication to do

 

When i got my new boots i had my boot get stuck under the shifter on my 300ex. With more riding time i got used to shifting with the boots on.

 

Buy another stock shifter and modify it to make shifting easier. You may have to put it in a bench vise and bend it upwards a little. I also found that bending the shifter out away from the side case a little helps.
