I have been wanting to race for years but I never really had my Banshee set up, now a few years and a few dollars down the road-I have a decent set of tires and shocks, and some engine mods. but that's not the point - I wanna know what it takes to get going in mx style racing.. like where I need to go and what I need to do, I don't really have a clue b/c I don't have anybody to talk to about it around here... there are not any local tracks that have races either! But really all I'm looking for is some good info from you guys that know what you're talking about

thanks in advance,

Jeff

Jeff,

I am sort of in the same boat as you, only a little further along! I'm in Arizona, but I am sure it's pretty much the same. I started at my cycle shops, picking up the local racing mags and reading them for MX track information, practice schedules, and people to contact. Then I started e-mailing the contacts at the different tracks, and asking them what I need to do to register, I found out what tracks allowed quads to practice, and then I got out to those tracks and practiced. At the tracks, I got to talk to more racers, and got even more info from them. I have the local race shedule up on my fridge, now, and my next step is to make it out the the next local MX race. (I made some great local contacts that are more than willing to answer my questions, too.) Once I am there, I plan on talking to the people at the registration table, and finding out how and when I need to register for my first race!

Some tracks will have a website that will tell you what mods you have to have to race, and what equipment you need to wear to pass the technical check. I found out that most places need you to have nerf bars, a tether, boots, helmet, chest protector, goggles, gloves, and jerseys and pants. Pretty basic, huh?

Hope that helps a little!
