I was thinking about doing some harescrambles next year and want to know where and when they are. District 23's website doesn't do me much good. If I rode dirtbike, it'd be very helpful...LOL. I would also like to know what the rules are. I have a 400ex that's all stock, I'm wondering if this will be good enough, or will I have to mod the h*ll out of it. What different classes are there? Any info would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

letitsnow,

It's great to hear from someone that is interested in getting involved with racing. HareScrambles are pretty basic. In Minnesota District 23, there are 4 quad class that you can enter. QuadSport A, QuadSport B, Woodsman, and Women. QuadSport A and B are the sport quad classes, Woodsman is the utility class, and Women....you guessed it. Is for women. Being that it is your first race, I would recommend racing in the QuadSport B class. As for your quad, I would say that close to 50% of the machines racing at these events are 400EX's. It is a very popular HareScamble racing machine. You don't have to sink thousands of dollars into your machine to race or have fun. But I would recommend a teather kill switch(for safty), nerf bars(for sliding around trees), and a set of aftermarket tires(for durability and traction). None of these are required, but are very helpful. Things that are required include a safe and operational atv, helmet, goggles, ankle high boots, and pants. Full riding gear is prefered, but not required. As for race dates. There are 6 D23 HareScramble events and 1 Moose/Parts Unlimited Cross Country race this summer. Here is the location and date of each HS:
5/5/02 Hare Scrambles Monticello
5/12/02 Hare Scrambles Millville
8/25/02 HS & Play Day Akeley
9/15/02 Hare Scrambles Millville
9/29/02 Hare Scrambles Cambridge
10/20/02 Hare Scrambles Mazeppa
The Cross Country race date is still TBD.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to contact me by e-mail (chrisjstark@yahoo.com). I'd like to do whatever I can to help you get racing this year.

Thanks Chris. The first one in Monticello is only about 10 miles from home, that's easy enough! I already have all of the stuff that you mentioned. I used to road race streetbikes. I can't wait to get the pre-race butterflys going again, it's been 6 years since I roadraced.

Thanks again,
Dan

Sounds good. Now to be able to race, you have to be a member of the AMA and Minnesota District 23. Being that you used to race streetbikes, you probaly already are a member of the AMA or know how to go about it. To join D23, just visit the website and follow the instructions (www.armca.org).
Good luck this season, and keep in touch so that we can meet on race day.

Biggy,

I'm not sure if Nate is going to race HareScramble's in 2002. I know for a fact that Lind is not racing XC this year, and is focusing more on winning a MX title. All of the heavy hitters are building MX machines. When I spoke with Lind last week, he said that Nate had not made up his mind yet on weather he wanted to race XC or MX. Nate got out of racing MX a couple of years ago because he couldn't be beat. There were not as many races back then, and the rider turnout was small. But now that there are 20+ MX events every summer, 8 tracks and great rider turnouts. It might get him interested again. I know for a fact that the 250/440 class has some serious compitition this year. 2 yz426 machines, a yz400 machine, a (de-sleeved)crf450 machine, and several full Laeger's and Lonestar 265r's are in the works.

I plan on racing a full season of HareScramble's in the QuadSport A class.
I also plan on racing as many MX events in the QuadSport and 250/440 classes as I can afford/get to.

See ya at the races,
Chris
