Steele Creek GNCC
#1
I am going to run the Steele Creek GNCC race in Morganton NC. I was curious about the track and the way the GNCC works. I have never run a CC race only MX. So if somebody could tell me a little about the track and classes i would appreciate it.

GNCC...as you probably already know...follows the natural terrain of the land. They..GNCC.. will come in, lease the land for the weekend, and put in their own trail reguardless of any other trails that already exist. the trail usually runs between 7-9 miles or so, and you will do 4 laps. you will line up at the start with all the other atv classes, and they send you off class by class...ex: women, 4stroke c, 2 stroke c, you get the idea. it is a cold start, which means that you will have to stop your engine at the line, they will raise the flag, then drop it, and you will have to start your bike and take off at the drop of the flag, not a problem if you have electric start. i raced in the first year racer class last year, a little easier class than say 2-4 stroke classes, that's probably the class that you'll want to be in depending on weather it is your first GNCC or not. it runs for 4 laps, and unless you're a seasoned rider/racer, you WILL be hurting after the first lap or two. i usually ride like 10-15 hrs a week in the summer of fast trail riding, and i got some serious armpump around the 3 lap and was NUMB by the 4th, you will be hurting the next day!! But, it's a blast, and you'll love it!! i plan on racing 3 races of GNCC this year.
hope i could help

yamracer, i am also going to morganton, i e-mailed the gncc web site to ask what class to run . they told me either the first year class or the 4 stroke c class. these classes run before the pros do so you can race and spectate. on the gncc site they have a discription of the track , and also read the results from 01 to get an idea of what to expect. good luck

I liked Steel Creek this year pretty well. If you camp it cost and extra $10. The track layout was pretty good although fairly open. I happen to like the high speed tracks and this was, large full throttle field section, a couple of decent hills (nothing tough) and 3 creek crossings (third one was above the tires on a 400ex). I thought it was a fun track. Took about 3 hours to walk it.
Good luck next year.
Good luck next year.

thanks everyone for your reply's. I have one more question though. Does anyone run +2 a-arms for cross country. I know that in tight woods then you dont want them but if its kinda wide open, then would it be alright? If its really really tight then I will put my stock ones back on. Well thanks again! Oh yeah is there a motocross section to this track?

+ 2 would be alittle too wide unless you are using offset wheels to offset the tires back in toward the chassis. I ran a front end width of about 45.5" and I hear the Pros are running around 46" to 46.5" Those trees do seam to jump out and bite you. I would go narrower if I were you. If you do hit a tree at high speed, this really hurts your wrists and broken wrist bones take a long time to heal...mine hasen't healed yet and I broke mine in the end of OCT!!
There is no MX portion at this track (at least there wasn't last year and since this is a rec area, I don't think there will be one this year.
Good Luck,
Nick

the a-arms i totally recommened are + 1 with 1+4 offset front wheels.this way it is still stock but you have better turning and control. but +2 is way too much because when i ran +1's for one race with normal wheels i was going through trees and hitting both tires on them on either side. you cant be too competetive in the woods with +2.but it would help you for open sections and deep ruts so its your call.
