I just got my Cannibal setup for TT Racing. I had 8" TT Tires put on the back although now I am hearing that 10" would have been better but I guess we will have to wait and see. The only problem now is the rear is only 48.5" and it was at 50 with my MX rims. Can anyone comment on the advantages or disadvantages of being 48.5" vs 50" for TT?

The rear width is adjusted to the track's traction, less width=less traction..I'd say that most only run 48-49 on the rear anyways..

The difference between 48.5" vs. 50" isn't really that much. For the most part, I'd say you wouldn't notice it.

Do the wheels have any offset? They should. The wheels can be flipped around for more or less offset, if so. Most wheels are usually 3"/5" offset (8" wide) or 4"/6" offset (10" wide). You can change the width by using the offset to your advantage.

What we've done when my son has raced the open amatuer class on a Raptor 686 is go as wide as 52" (races aren't sanctioned by AMA) when traction is good. When we've had problems hooking up, and traction has been poor, is to pull the wheels in for around 46" in width. For oval events, we've sucked in the left rear tire, while the right rear is push out. This gives us more weight on the left rear tire for more corner traction. By using the wheel offset in conjunction with the durablue axle spacers, we can obtain multiple width settings.

Regards,

Rog

LT80 is right on about the width/traction. As for the tire size, 8" get more traction if you are loose. 10" gets more if you are hooking. The more surface area the quicker it disapates heat, so the 10 will work best if you are generating a lot of heat. With smaller tires, you have more weight on each square inch of the "footprint".

LT80, if I am off base, please correct me.
