i'm looking at mostly new bikes. but if i could find a used one with low hours at a good price i would buy it. But most of the utility bikes i'm finding for sale are almost as much as a new ones and some of them are just as much. the only used bikes i'm seeing good deals on are the grizzly's. but that is to big for me.
part of the reason I havent axed the bruin from my list yet. Is that everyone was complaining that it wasnt new technology. I though they just took the big bear engine & put an automatic on it.
What about auto's? my wife likes the autos but i keep hearing about belt slippage when wet. but thats mostly from people who dont actually have a belt auto.

I've never personally seen anyone slip a wet belt. The autos are nice for the women to ride, but I can tell you that my mother rides my Wolvy and does ok on it. If you are willing to spend 5k there is no reason to try and find a used bike, in my eyes. For the 5k you should be able to get a new '03 model somewhere. The Bruin is old technology, but what isn't? I still don't trust first model year anythings, but that's just me. I can't see the Bruin being all that quick, sporty, or fun either. And it just looks bad! No, don't take me wrong, I'm sure it isn't a bad bike. It doesn't seem bad at all, and has a nice 4k pricetag for the 2WD and 5k for the 4WD. I wouldn't consider the 4WD version over the Wolvy unless you were for sure about wanting an auto. The 2WD I could reason because it is a grand cheaper. In the end, once again, it's up to you. I'm a little partial to the Wolvy because I have one and love it, but maybe if I had a Bruin I would be screaming about how cool it was too. Maybe.

You should be able to get a Rancher 350S 4x4 for around $5000. OTD. I went to look at the Wolverine and the dealership wasn't going to have any for a couple months. The Wolverine should also sell for around $5000. Keep in mind that the 2004 Rancher 350's are a couple hundred more because of the plastic change. So you might want to try to get a 2003 Rancher, if that's what you decide on.
Most auto's would have to be used because of a higher retail price.

The wolv would be a good choice. I was priced an 03 about the time the 04s were coming out. They said 4599. If you buy the Warn 424 from Highlifter.com, they will beat the lowest price you can find, garunteed. They have great service too. If you go with a kodiak, which I also like, be sure to get the 450 if you buy new. It has the low range which was taken from the 400 kodiak begining with the 03 model. The new 450 also has the differential lock like the griz now which cant be bad. It isnt quite as sporty as the wolv in looks or performance but I would have a hard time choosing between the two. Some of my friends have ranchers and they too have shown to be very dependable. I havent had any ride time on them so I cant say much else. I will say that the auto on the kodiak, while very convienent and with an exellent engine braking system, does seem to keep the engine revving a bit. I like to lope around in the woods sometimes which makes the semi auto on the wolv a plus. The electronic shift on the rancher allows the same luxury.

I want to buy a used atv. I like to have a sport and a 4x4 atv. Im thinking a yamaha wolverine 450 (a little expensive for me), Polaris scrambler (all of them have belt problems when they go in water), or even maybe a yamaha grizzly 350 (because it is fast). If there are any other options please list them.

Pretty hard to stay away from belt drive if you want a 4wd. If you can ever find a good used 350 Wolverine it maybe for you. Its was the lightest 4x4 ATV ever made at 485lbs. and had a decent 55mph top end. Its only real down side was it was full time 4wd
It was even lighter then the smaller 250 4wd that use to be made. Here is its specs next to a 350 Grizzly 2010 Yamaha Grizzly 350 Automatic ATVs
I just bought a 350 Grizzly and there geared on the low side, mine is screaming at anything over 45 mph. The trail we have will not allow any ATV to hit more then 30 mph for a second or two at most so its not a big deal.
