i know how to work the clutch; mostly trail riding with some tight spots, small jumps and sometimes just cruising. even the dealer tried to steer me away.

well, if you are new to quads, and never ridden one, perhaps you should find a smaller one to get some experience on, then move up to the ds, i mean 650 ccs is one of the baddest quads on the market these days. They haul pretty good, and i wouldnt recommend it to a beginner. Perhaps a 400 ex or z 400?

simply NO
i was 16 yrs old when i rode my first a quad and it was ds-650 which i still have
its not too much for a biginner cuz its such a heavy/stable machine you cant go wrong with this quad
i would say there is no STOCK quad that is too much for a beginner

btw, i am 31, 6,2" and a i sat on the z but it felt kinda small. i sat on the ds and i was like wow, this thing is a beast! i just worry that being so big of a quad that it would difficult with tight trails and no reverse.

For your usage on trails, the DS is not best ride for you. If you need that much machine, how about a Raptor?

90% trailriding is what i do, and i have yet to have a problem with it. If your worried about sliding the bike around corners, that is no problem. If you think it might be, drop a tooth on the front sprocket. Only 13 bucks!

DS will side corners better than raptor. I have had both and I would rather ride a DS650 in the trails, it is a little wide but you get used to it.

If you want it... I'd say Get it...

Why 'Out-Grow' your Quad, by getting something smaller?
Wishing you had the Power later...

Just take it easy... Treat the machine good, & it will do the same..
You'll eventually grow into it, & want to start modding...

Well have Fun...

You live in Ohio, so I assume you are primarily a trail rider. The DS is not the hot setup for the trail! The standard now is 350 lbs., 400 max. The DS is way to heavy. It is just silly these days to buy anything over 400 lbs!!! Like he said, get a Raptor if you need a big bore.
