Trailers in NY?
#3
The trailer *may* be covered under your car insurance - also may be covered under your homeowners policy but it's also possible that it will not be covered at all. Just make a quick call to your insurance agent and get a quote at the same time. I have separate insurance for my ATV's and my trailer. The only coverage that I would have had for my trailer would have been under my homeowners - and then only for theft and only if I kept it inside a garage - So I got a full coverage policy for minimal $$$.

In NY you have to register your trailer and get it inspected each year. As far as the insurance, the trailer is covered under the vehicle towing it. That also covers the cargo. I heard some insurance policies do not cover theft so I would double check that. Homeowners/ renters insurance should cover the trailer while it's parked. I know mine does as long as the trailer has a lock on it.

Tacoma is correct. You need to register the trailer usually about 20 bucks. While the trailer is connect to a vehicle it is covered for liability only by the vehicle it is connected to. If it is not connected to a vehicle it might be covered by your homeowners policy (the best thing to do is check with your agent). I got comp on my trailer for $17 / year. Mainly for when the trailer is in storage. Good luck.
