Hi! Any help here would really be appreciated. I am looking to buy a solid, dependable, fast, fun and work machine. I was originally looking at the Yamaha Wolverine, but I have been told that for the money a Kawasaki 220 or 300 would do what I needed. Also heard the Honda Recon is good and it is in the same price range. This would be my first ATV and mostly looking for a keeper that can do all kinds of things. I don't hunt though, so I don't have to worry about hauling deer. Also, it will be my machine, but it has to be one that my husband will feel comfortable riding as well. (He is a dirt bike man, mostly.) Thanks!

if you want to stay with a small displacement 2 wheel drive machine it is pretty tough to beat the honda recon.

if you are willing to spend a little more you might consider the suzuki lt-f250f. this is a small displacement machine (246cc) but it has a selectable 4 wheel drive system (2wd, 4wd, and 4 wheel diff. lock) it also has 3 ranges (super low, low and high). this would give you a smaller machine but still give a great 4 wheel drive system. also with the 3 different ranges you can pull just about anyhitng on a trailer. in my neck of the woods you can get a lt-f250f for about $4100.

good luck and enjoy whatever you get :-)

The Archer & I must be on the same wave length. If you are looking for a 2wd you won't find anything better than the Recon. My wife has one & loves it.

A small 4WD Suzuki makes a real nice quad.

One suggestion, test drive as many as possible. Get the one that fits you & your needs the best!

There really aren't any BAD quads out there.

You've received good advice all around. Don't ignore that Wolverine entirely, if you're considering your husband's enjoyment seriously--if he's a die-hard dirt bike man, the Wolverine's sportiness should definitely appeal to him.

For yourself, principally, the Recon sounds right--a lady on one outran me (top speed) BAD last weekend; also, she kept up with the 4x4's on some rocky, steep trails.

Best advice so far: ride as many as you can, pick the one that suits you best; and: there are no bad 'uns out there!

What exactly is your price range? A new wolverine list for around 5600.00 and a recon list for somethig like 3500.00 as I recal. There are alot of bikes involved in that big of a range. I would go with a two wheel drive Kodiak or a 2wd. Rancher ES. Both of those bikes are in the mid to upper 4000.00 range. I would say that the Kodiak is probably the sporty one of the two. I have a kodiak 4x4 and it keeps up with my buddys warriors most of the time. I would stick with Honda or Yamaha anyway.
