Again. i need a atv for basic goof off riding around a farm in northern kentucky. im 5'10 135 lbs 15 yrs old. im on like a 2000 dollar budget. im not going to be racing or hauling anything around. just basically riding up and down hills and the occasion moist mud ride, nothing like going thru 3 feet of soaking wet dirty mud. plz help. i heard hondas are reliable. my uncle has a 2 yr old honda foreman 4x4. so i know how reliable hondas are. currently i have a 98 honda xr80r, so i will be selling that for hopefully around 750 dollars and paying the rest. help!!

jonpwessel- Why did you feel like you needed to add the p to your name? Just curious.
I'd like to welcome jonpwessel and jonwessel to atv connection on behalf of all the animals in this zoo!
Makes me even wonder what I'm writing about sometimes.

funny u should ask. jonwessel and jonpwessel are the same person (me) juss 2 user names. i was at school early 2day and wanted to post. but i couldn't remember my PW b/c i didn't change it b/c i juss registered jonwessel yesterday, so i made up a new UserName. thats all. oh btw 2 answer ur question. p is my middle intial. oh do i really need 4wd? what are the advantages besides more traction ? and i had a question? does a 300cc 4x2 have less power than a 300cc 4x4? in other words does 300cc of power go to all the wheels ? so 300x2 = 600 compared to 300x4 = 1200 ? or does it have the same power except the back 2 wheels are twice as weak as the 2x4 back and the front 2 wheels have power compared to the 2x4 which doesn't? also since i imagine its in the same price, which would you rather have 350 2x4 or 200 to 220 4x4 ? when does 4x4 come in most handy (keep it realistic plz) thanks for all ur wisdom!

Whoaaa there guy.
Don't make it so complicated or you'll confuse yourself and everyone else as well.
Lets take for example purposes a 300 honda 4x4 and a 300 honda 4x2 utility bike. The number of drive wheels does not multiply the power. Therefore the 4x4 is not stronger than the 4x2. It does have more traction. The 4x2 is a bit faster due to 2 main factors. The 4x2 is lighter and the 4x4 has more parasitic loss due to the front drivetrain. The main factor is the weight. Also the 300 4x2 may have a different final drive ratio. You can equate this to a 10 speed bike. You as the rider of the bike are the "engine". You can only pedal so hard. If you put the bike in a high gear - 10th for example you can go a faster top speed but you have less acceleration. In 1st gear the opposite is true. This is how the final drive ratio works.
The smallest 4x4 made was about a 250cc bike. (timberwolf, several polaris bikes, suzuki, and maybe a few more) A 250 is a bit under powered when equipped with 4x4 (maybe with the exception of a two-stroke).
If you get a 4x4 I would suggest 300cc or larger.
You will be hard pressed to find a 4x4 quad anywhere near as resonable as a 4x2 if they are in comparable conditions.
If you are going through mud there is no comparing a 4x4 with a 4x2. If you ride a 4x2 for a while you will not believe the difference in traction

Guys;
I am a Honda person but I did have the pleasure of owning a Suzuki 250 King Quad 4x4 several years ago and I was always impressed by it's capabilities and reliability for a 250cc machine, the IRS made it ride like a caddy and that thing would FLY and go almost anywhere in 4wd the only problem were the squeaky brakes. My friend I sold it to still has it and with 0 problems except for the occasional squeaks. If I were buying new 2wd with limited income no doubt a Blaster (because of price) , if I were wanting a 4x4 on limited income, a good used King Quad or Honda ForeMan.
