Default New to this, To choose between CVT, Semi-Auto, Manual

Well I'm new to all this and really want to get a Quad. I'm having trouble to decide what to get as far as a CVT, Semi-auto or a manual transmission ( it seems to me to be a bit of a pain to shift with a manual clutch and going over rough terrain at the same time ! ). I'm not looking at racing just good old trail and back yard bashing (20 Acres). I'm an adult 5'7" @ 170Lbs and was wondering what size of engine or power would be suitable for my weight and return good performance. I was looking at the new RedCat FX-150 and the soon to be released RedCat FX-250 model. Also of interest are the Honda 250EX and Suzuki LTZ-250. Any comments on all of this?

well, here is my opinion:

Automatic CVT's- Polaris Phoenix, or Scrambler 500

Auto Clutch (semi-manual)- Lakota Sport, Z250, or Bayou (more of a utility than a sport quad)

Manual Clutch (fully-manual)- Mojave, Blaster, or 300EX

Hey I've just had a look at the Polaris Trail Blazer 250cc and the Scrambler 500cc. The scrambler is quite heavy at 571Lbs but has the power, on the other hand the Trail Blazer is much lighter at 375Lbs but has a 2 stroke engine. The question is the 4 stoke will have the torque and the 2 stoke will had the high end power but not sure how much since it is only a 250cc and how loud is that 2 stroke !!

Raziel, do you have any riding experience with quads or motorcycles? If not, you should consider a 250cc or smaller. And don't skimp on protective gear!

Then you need to look at 400cc's (thumpers) and up.

You would be VERY dissapointed with a beginner quads power.

as for beginners quads, the recon is surprisingly snappy.

but i agree, you should go w/ 400 or up.

id take the scrammy over the trail blaze just b/c its a 4wd, more reliable motor, and it cant have too much less top end, as ive gotten mine to 65mph.

take a good look at the scrammy though, its got more power than youll ever need. you dont really notice the weight (then again ive ridden 500+ lb quads my whole life)
