Default To buy a Camoflauge quad or not?

I bought a 2005 Grizz 660 hardwoods edition, I wanted to buy a simple green quad for a couple hundred bucks less. The only reason I bought the Hardwoods camo edition was because my Local dealer had one in stock for the same "out the door" price as the larger dealers in the city. I talked to the City dealers in hopes of getting one cheaper but they pissed me off and I went back to my Local dealer and purchased the camoflauge quad not caring if the stuff peeled off, flaked off or dulled in the sunshine.

I'm glad I bought the camo quad, for several reasons.

The Camo hides scratches amazingly well, I rolled my quad down a hill and it smashed a tree pinning the rear fender against the tree and rear rack of the quad, you can't tell there is a scratch until you look very close and see the black plastic where it used to be camo. If i had been a standard plastic in a base red, green or whatever color the rear fender would look horrible with all the scratches and those lines that show up in stressed plastic. The camo hides it so well you'd never know the difference.

The Camo hides the quad extremly well. I went Elk hunting and often abandond my quad just a few feet from a busy county road while I hiked way back in the draws hunting on foot in the thick brush and timber. No one stole my quad, they simple couldn't see it where I had hidden it in the brush. A friend went with me several times and his bright red quad was a pain in the *** to hide, the red stuck out like a sore thumb and he had to go way way back in the bushes to hide his quad, it cost alot of time waiting for him to do this.

The camo is cool! Many friends look and ooogle over the cool camo, most people just have a standard color quad and the camo one sticks out on a big ride.

So if your not sure about how well the camo holds up or if it's going to peel or chip off don't worry, I think it's more durable than a standard plastic quad, more durable in that it hides it's flaws so well. The fenders would break the same as any other fender, scratch just like any other fender, but the scratches are very hard to find unlike a standard plastic fender.

The Camo looks really really cool too if you put pledge or plastic protector like armor all on it, the pattern gets really deep and rich, very VERY cool looking

I fully reccomend buying a Camoflauge quad if your so inclined.

I just got me my 05 Grizz Hardwoods in last week, and I SECOND that!!! It shouldn't be any other way on an atv. The only good I see in the standard scratchable colors, is at least not everyone has a camo, especially being a $300 bump in price (and so worth it). I simply love this machine. Only has about 2 hours on it, and all I can say is I can't ever remember being so satisfied with a product!

For hunting, camo may be good but for trail riding around here, there is no way I would go with camo. I want people to see me coming! I wanted the brightest colors possible on a quad, so I have yellow and my wife has red. Also, we always ride with our headlights lights on and we have brightly colored helmets.

With the tight wooded trails we have in Western Washington I will do anything to make myself and my quad stand out in order to avoid a head-on collision. If I rode more open trails I think camo would be cool.

Turn the headlights on and use a whip, but if you only trail ride then ya

This thread was for people who are concidering camo but are worried it might fall apart, peel or isn't worth the cost.

I got the 05 700 EFI Polaris Sportsman for the same reason: WEAR, the painted bikes scratch where the camo ones dont, and besides it lookes cool as heck. Hunting is especially fun with it , you just blend right in.

I had talked to the local Yamaha dealer about the camo patterns and they didn't recommend the camo. Was told it will start to peel and look like crap. It also would not be covered under the warranty. It does look cool though

Well I'm not sure how Yamaha does their camo (I suspect is the same...), but Polaris uses a process called to actually “bake” the camo into the body panels.... it can't come off... you should take a close look a Sportsman camo and you'll see (check under the fender) its on there for the long haul (IMO).

The Kolorfusion process is based upon an ink/dye transfer process called dye sublimation. The dyes when heated will vaporize and if next to a suitable substrate, such as coatings or plastic, the dyes become part of the adjacent substrate. http://www.kolorfusion.com

The Dealers don't know everything and worse yet often have an agenda and will lie to you. That dealer might have bee heavy on regular plastic quads or wanted to save the Camo to look good on his showroom, they want to bang the customer hard and charge the max they can when supplies are in demand.

example:

I was in the market for the new R1 (Yahamas 1000cc crotch rocket) the first year it came out, but I waited a bit too long and most of them were sold out. I went to a Dealer and found a used one that had been wrecked then repo'd. It was trashed and it had aftermarket plastic on it and looked pretty rough. MSRP was just under $11,000 bucks brand new and they wanted $14,000 bucks for this wrecked, used bike.. I laughed in their faces and told them to F off, they said ok no matter someone will buy it. I don't doubt someone will just HAVE to have that bike and pay way too much for it. I'm sure your dealer knew you wouldn't pay too much for that last camo quad they had so steer'd you to the regular quads.

Well,

1) for the record, the camo peeled off in places on my Sportsman and they replaced the entire body plastics under warranty.

2) whereas I let my brother ride my Remington SE camo 500, I took the BRIGHT YELLOW Recon and as I sat in my stand I watched a doe lick the fenders on it. So much for camo.

Go figure.

I got camo on my Prarie and am glad I did. My wife said it just fits me as I spend a lot of time in the woods exploring. I also put a stealth muffler on and have ridden right up on deer twice. As for the dealer they gave me the same bs, but allso got the deal and the city dealers were creeps and negative about the camo.
