Default ATV Goggles

Dumb question.... What's the difference between Motocross ATV Goggles vs. Ski goggles? Both made by Scott. Is there any reason why I shouldn't use ski goggle for riding? Thanks for you help.

Ski goggles are usually darker colored to help reduce eye strain in sunny weather, Thats all i could think of now

My thought's are possibly different foam and a no fog treatment for the lense.

as far as i know the only difference is that ski goggles are usually tinted as to stop glare, and I know that you can get both goggles in anti fog. I personally dont buy the expensive googles becuase they know that there are enough corprate sell outs to have to have theis type of goggle other wise you arent cool ii dont wan to offend anybody but i get the cheapest but still comfortavble goggles and then do some anti fog treatment on them after i buy them. I use some stuff called cat crap I ski so i had some of it and it worked really good

My first guess would be there is no difference in the lenses.. It has been a long time.. but I believe goggles designed for winter use (snowmobile) had a different frame that directed your breath downward away from the lenses... But that may not be the case these days. I suspect you will find they have different venting capabilities... but lenses should be interchangable if they are the same size I would suspect. You might pose that to the Scott folks...

You might have a safety issue here!

Not all goggles are created equal. I don't know for sure but ski goggles could be designed only to keep snow, wind and glare out of your eyes, where ATV goggle are meant more for protection and won't shatter if smacked by a branch, or a kicked up rock.

My eyes are to important to risk, so I won't go with the ski goggles unless I talked to someone from Scott's and they confirmed the ski goggle have the same impact resistance as the ATV goggles.

Jommer, You are right. I got the answer from Scott USA. The lenses are different. If I want to use ski goggle, I need to purchase the MX lens from Scott. They are interchangable on certain models. The MX lenses are stronger and can withstand a rock. The ski goggle lenses are not neccessary up to standards.

Ozark, Thanks for relaying the info.

i would think lens made for paintball would also work, but might cost even more than the MX lens. i liked paintball, just to many whinny rich kids to deal with.
