I am interested in possibly getting an atv and would like to find out more about them.
First of all, what are good makes and moddels? ( I need something with a 90 cc engine.) How much can I expect to pay for something decent? Is there anything for under a grand?
What kind of performance mods can be done to the engine?
Also, most of the ones I see with that size engine are kids toys. Are there any that arent or are all 90cc engine ones for kids? Besides for the engine is there any difference?

90cc is a kids engine, you can bore them, stroke them, exhausts, cams, rockers, springs, shocks, everything! stick to a good name, yamaha, honda, kawasaki, suzuki. under 1,000$ new, nope, maybee a good used 90c tho. look at a raptor 80, auto clutch 3-speed, you can get a good used one for about a 1,000$. good luck.

86LT250RFatty- thanks, that really helped.
Cake-Im about 145lbs, 5'2"
I cant get one with a bigger engine because Im not yet 16 and my state doesnt allow me to have a bigger engine until I am.
If I get a bigger engine anyway, do they actually catch people?
And is is still illegal if I buy a ATV with a 90cc engine and then replace the engine with a slightly bigger one, so its more like I modded it then bought one to big.

Im 14. After reading this forum and other ones, Ive decided Ill probably get one about 250cc.
What would you guys recomend?
I wuld prolly be using it for doing tricks once I get good at riding regularly, riding in very rugged terrain and going trail riding.
I want something thats very moddable, can take abuse, is safe, and will last a long time.

Lol, and the search for more power begins. Welcome to the site, and the sport. Well since your first starting off you have to ask yourself if you want to shift gears or not, thats the biggest decision in a quad. Secondly there are 2 kinds of motors available, a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke, if you know what those are, good, if not, check it out at howstuffworks.com. I personaly like 4 strokes, they are a little easier to maintain, since its the same motor that is found in a car, so you just change the oil and fill it with regular gas, in a 2 stroke, you have to mix the gas with oil for it to run. Once you figure that out theres alot of good choices, a honda 300ex, for example is 300cc and easy to learn on, polaris has a 250cc bike, yamaha has a 200cc 2 stroke called a blaster and a 350cc 4 stroke called the raptor 350.
