looking for a quad, for a big guy
#1
im a newbie with quads (my money goes to my jeep), I'm looking for a 2wd quad something that rips (speed) that i can take on the trails, an play in the mud alittle. Now the catch is I'm a big guy, 240, 5'10. My buddy has the Suzuki Z400...and they have a couple of great financing options right now... Would that suit my needs? What are some other options\? TIA

I think the Z would work well but also agree with Ozark. I too am a larger guy 6'3 and 280. I went with the Raptor because I felt it had a little more leg room for my height. However I really enjoyed the Z also. It's just a matter of preferance. Go out and try riding a few different ones around to find the best fit.

Power on all the listed machines (Z, V, Raptor) will be able to pull your weight around without a problem. The power delivery is a bit differen't on each quad and this is where you will need to ride each one to determine 1 - Fit and 2 - which power you like. Having a Raptor I can say it is a torque monster. I have ridden a Z a few times but don't have enough seat time to give a honest opinion. I'm sure one of the other guys on here will be able to provide more on them.

I would have to say that the raptor has the best all around power of all these 3, if you want to do mudding, the best sport quad for this IMO is the V-Force. The Z probaly has the suspension and handling, but not the power. So you make your choice and get some seat time with all three. And these quads wont have any problem moving you around!

Dude, you are not a big guy... trust me on this... at 5'10", 280.. I have you beat by a mile... Take a look at the weight ratings on many of the sport models you are looking at... I suggest you sit on a few to get some sense on how they fit your body. The Bombardier DS650 is probably the largest that is on the market for sport models... The raptor 660 is slightly smaller...
Anyway, as a beginner, just about anything that is comfortable under your butt will do. The 400 to 500 class is just about right. Even a raptor 350 would work... I ride an old warrior from time to time, and I am over 6'3", 300.. and it gets with the program. The raptor 350 is a reskinned warrior. All the bikes in that class should work well for you.. which ever one you can get the best deal on is the one to buy.
Remember it doesn't matter if your buddies are faster.. the important thing is to get out there and ride. Speed isn't the only thing in life.. Some day you will figure that out...

Im 5'10" 240 and i ride the 350, it gets me around. When i was at the dealer i threw my leg over a couple bikes and i like the way it "felt" over everything else, so i bought it and im happy with my decision. I would look into a 660 if you want something that has more ***** and is comfortable.
