Best 400cc On The Market?
#4
I just picked up an '05 KFX400 yesterday. If you're looking for a sport quad, this seems to be the ticket.
I closely compared the KFX and Honda TRX400EX, as they were the same price.
There were a few things I didn't like about the Honda. There was nothing I didn't like about the Kawi.
I've read that the TRX is a better wheelie machine than the KFX - well, I just "stabbed" the throttle on the bike yesterday in the yard, and I was looking skyward, THEN I DID IT AGAIN!! There is no problem doing wheelies on the KFX, but I hear it's easier to find the balance point on the Honda.
People also seem to say the Honda gets the nod with proven reliability and trail "creeping" ability, as the KFX likes to be revved more, and the Honda motor is a bottom end motor. I can vouch for the Honda motor reliability and the "chugging" ability. I have a '98 XR400 I've been riding like I stole it and it's never failed me.
The general consensus seems to be that they're both great quads, and you won't be disappointed with either. It seems like they put more thought into the "Kawazuki".
Hope this helps.

Assuming you mean sport machine-
Z400 best looking.
Z400 and 400EX equally reliable (I own both, and they are both dead solid reliable).
Z400 best overall, except I prefer the EX for any real tight, slow, semi-technical trails.

If you are looking at a utility go with the Outlander 400. It's the most powerful in its class and is a very comfortable maching to ride. Right now BRP is offering a 3 year warranty with the the purchase of an 06 model (not that you'll probably need it though).
