Might buy a quad
#1
Hi, I was thinking of getting a quad and wanted your advice. I really like my dirt bike but I tried a little 90 quad at a track and besides that a lawn-mower could out run it, it was kinda cool.
I am only going to spend about 1,000 on it because that's all I have and I just want something cheap to throw around because i will probably use my dirt bike more.
I was looking in the classified ads and it seems like an old Yamaha warrior would be my best bet. I want at least 250cc 2 stroke or 350cc 4 stroke.
I found an '88 warrior with pipe for $1500 he said it was in good condition but I haven't seen a picture yet. Isn't 1500 a little steep for an 18 year old quad.
thanks,
Colin

I rode a Warrior for years, and was never so glad as the day when I sold it and got a 400EX! The Warrior just handles kind of heavy and clunkey, which takes a lot of the fun out of riding it. If it's that old, you can be sure the shocks have seen better days.

Make that guy an offer on that Warrior and if he says no then don't sweat it.
I agree with cr125predator. You might want to consider saving a bit more cash so you can get yourself something that isn't a huge POS.

go with an early 90's dirtbike that is what i would do. 1000 isn't much but you can get alot more on a dirtbike for 1000 dollars then an atv and it seems to me you want something for more power and speed. get a nice lil 125 they are fun.

Colin, if you really want a decent quad you will need to up the $$ a bit. Add another $500.00 to $1000.00 and you can reasonably expect to find something along the lines of an older Warrior/250X/300EX on the 4stroke side or the venerable LT250R or Banshee on the 2stroke side. Keep in mind that anything in this price range(well, just about any used quad really) is going to need a little TLC and possibly some $$ put into it. Also, while something like a 250X will never be a big speed demon, they are still a blast to ride and may surprise you as to their abilities. If you are just looking for something to fool around with, I wouldn't overlook a clean one.

thansk for the replys. I think I will spend a little more on this. You guys were tellling me to get a dirt bike, I already have a '92 wr200, it seems old but it has plenty of power and speed for me(got it for $900).
I would really like to find an old banshee but can't find any older than 98(even on ebay, craigslist and news papers). If I could get any quad I would get an 06 black banshee, but thats too much $.

My dad just bought me a Baja Wilderness 250cc for a little over 2000 brand new. If u get more $$$$, it would be great. I live in Arlington (by Everett). We got the atv at the MT Vernon G.I. Joes(exit 225??? off I-5).It would be a good 1st time atv.
