Looking for a good mini-quad....

Snowshark,
Thanks for the information on the tires. I'm glad to know that the 20x10x8 Bandits work well for you.
Given the light weight of any mini-quad, is there a reason you elected to go with Douglas .160 rims? I would think the Douglas .125 rims would be more than sufficient for any mini-quad application, and you would save a little weight to boot. Please comment.
Finally, do you have any pictures available for public viewing of your E-ton with the Bandits mounted?
Thanks, Army Man

armyman,
the 18X9.5X8 turf tamers are very good tires. they look too simple to be effective, but they are VERY effective tires. they were my first choice in aftermarket skins, but rockymountainatv.com was out of stock, so I elected the fast trekkers. the fast trekkers do well in our type of terrain. we do very little deep mud, but we do lots of creek crossings with slippery banks in & out of the water & they climb the hills well.
we also chose douglas .125 offset wheels from rocky mountain. the tires & rims came as a package deal & were pretty cheap........like 110.00 for the set.
we have mounted the larger fast trekker 20X7X8 front tires on the REAR of the LT-80, and they are an excellent tire also. they don't do much for stability, but they increased top end, and do very well in all riding conditions so far. I put them on my older (more advanced) son's LT-80. he is almost 6 years old.
be carefull with a 10" rear tire on an LT-80........with no offset wheels, they will surely hit the muffler. the 20" tire will be no problem for the rear of the quad, but stick with the 19" in the front. our 20" fronts hit the front bumper @ full lock steering.......thats why they ended up on the rear
the 18X9.5 fast trekkers will allow the lt-80 to go into a full pitched slide on grass no problem! the kids seem to enjoy this (acting like dad) behavior
these tires are no doubt better than the stock tires for the rear of the LT.
EXtreme.....cool website, I enjoyed it.

Armyman,
Sorry no pictures yet, I am hoping Santa brings me a digital camera.
The reason for the .160 instead of the .125 was peice of mind. They were only $5 more a piece at Rockymountainatv.com.
Sometime the old man likes to get on the kids quad & take a little spin!
The bandits wouldn't fit on the factory 7x8 rims needed the 8x8 douglas rims for the tires to fit.

My thanks to all who posted here on this subject. I'm still kind of amazed that total strangers would give such well thought out advice and opinions. This forum is something else....
Well my son and I made the decision on the LT80 and went and picked it up today. We got a 2001 model for 2400 plus tax. We also took advantage of the Suzuki 200 worth of free accessories deal that's going on right now until the end of the year, I think. This got him a chest protector, gloves, a factory service manual, extra plugs and a few other little things.
We didn't get to ride today, but as soon as we get time, hopefully tomorrow, I will let you know our first impressions of the LT80.
I don't plan any mods right now. It will take me awhile to get over paying for this thing. But down the road, I think more stable tires and maybe front wheel spacers are in order for a safer machine. We'll see......
Thanks again for the advice. It made a difference....

Well, we had our first ride on the new LT80 and I am impressed. I was worried about the jump from 50 to 80cc for my son, but he handled it perfectly. He loves the suspension, since his last quad had none. We still have the restrictor in the exhaust, but it seems to carry him rather well. We went on an easy trail ride with small water crossings and small log crossings and he handled it well. The LT80 actually has more low end power than I suspected. I was worried about having to get the rpm's up to do anything, but so far it hasn't been necessary.
After 1st ride, we're totally happy with the LT.

exmxer,
Look at getting some wider tires for the LT-80 or wheel spacers. This will make is more stable, especially in the turns & when riding in the woods (off camber type stuff). The LT-80 is good quad we have 2 in our club. Later when your boy has more experience they even make aftermarket pipe & other goodies.

Hey Snowshark....how does your E-ton90 do in the snow? We got my sons' LT80 out the other day in about 4 inches of snow, and I was pleasantly surprised. It went great. I realize, 4 inches isn't alot, but to a 5 year old it was awesome. I even hooked a sled to his quad and he took turns pulling me, my wife and my daughter around. I just can't get over how good that little 80 goes....

exmxer,
I am jealous. No snow in the riding areas, yet. It sounds like the kid is having a blast with the quad on the snow!
I can't wait to go play in the snow, uhhh.... I mean I can't wait to take the kid to play in the snow. Yeah thats it!
Enjoy.
