400ex vs. raptor 660
I am looking at buying my first sport atv and dont know much about them. I have had experience riding atv and jet skis just not sport atvs. From what reading ive done i think i would like either a Honda 400 ex or a Raptor 660. From what i read people say that you would get tired of riding a 400ex because of the lack of power and from what ive heard the 660 has plenty of it. I would like to spend around $3000 and whatever i end up getting i will prolly end up keeping it for a long time, so i want something reliable. Also what are some things that i would need to look for when purchasing a atv. Any input would be great. Thanks

yeah im 6'1 230 so i need something that will get up and go, but my brother will also be riding it and he is considerably smaller like 5'10 140. We will be doing most of our riding through wheat fields and down through creeks also i am kind of close to the little sahara sand dunes. How many horse power is a stock 660 and what would its top speed be

It took lightweight, race bred, highly tuned 450 engines to knock the raptor 660 off the top of the hill. The 400ex hasnt been the fastest four stroke since the last millenium, and the big bores on the market today along with the 450's dominate the 400ex in a straight line. It handles great and it's an excellent bike but it's dropped to the bottom of the heap and the only bikes it's better than are the ones with under 400cc's.

Stock 660 doesn't hold a candle to a stock ds650. I'm not saying they can't be modded to run good. A piped 660 would smoke a piped 400. Just said stock for stock, I'd take the EX. I think the 660 is top heavy and through the first 3 or 4 gears, there really isn't that much difference in power. Plus, there is more to life than how fast you can go in a straight line.
Hell, I used to want a Raptor until I road one. Just not for me.
