Default buying and selling question

I have bought a 01 polaris scrambler ( I actually got it on a trade) I did not get a title w/the bike just written permission to aquire the title from Polaris credit since the bike was paid off and the owner never recieved the title. I now want to trade this quad for a car as I need transportation (w/a heater) asap! My problem is I've been lazy about getting the title and havn't asked for it yet. What can I do? I have a bill of sale for the bike is that going to be enough? Should I get the previous owner to give the person I'll be trading permission to get the title from polaris? Any ideas?

Thanks,

You can go through your local vehicle registration office. Make sure you bring in a transfer of the VIN number (don't just copy the number down, put a piece of paper over the VIN number and rub a pencil over it to transfer the number.) There's a small filing fee and they have to do a search to make sure that the VIN has never been titled. At least, that's how it works around here.
